Rooted in Care

TakeRoot is shaped by the people who tend the land, grow the food, and nurture the relationships that keep our community strong. Their work inspires everything we do.

Meet Gordon

Two elderly people, a man and a woman, are packing fresh broccoli into black crates in the back of a red pickup truck outdoors near a building and trees.

For more than 40 years, Gordon and his wife, Susan have been growing fresh, high-quality produce at Grandview Farm in Fremont, Nebraska. They’re hands-on farmers through and through, always learning, always digging in the dirt, and always finding new ways to grow good food the right way.

You’ve probably seen Grandview Farm at farmers markets across Nebraska or tasted their produce at local restaurants, Hy-Vee stores, or in No More Empty Pots’ CSA boxes. Gordon also helped start the Sunday Farmers’ Market at College View back in 2005 and still serves on its board today. Now, he’s working on his next big idea: bringing a Farm Stop to Omaha. Gordon is excited about building the strong local food community he’s helped grow for decades.

Meet Carla

A smiling woman with blonde hair and blue eyes, wearing a black and white patterned sleeveless top, sitting in front of a brick wall.

Carla has always found herself at the intersection of people and the food they eat. With a background in agriculture and public relations, she’s combined both passions to help grow Omaha’s local food community. Carla has also spent years bringing people together through schools, churches, and non-profits, supporting local farmers and making healthy food more accessible.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Carla worked with No More Empty Pots, sourcing weekly produce boxes and building relationships with more than 50 regional farmers. She’s motivated by a simple goal: to connect the people who grow our food with the people who eat it, strengthening the bonds that keep communities thriving.

Meet Matt

Two people standing inside a greenhouse surrounded by green tomato and pepper plants, smiling at the camera.

Just outside Council Bluffs, Iowa, you’ll find Long Walk Farm, a dream that Matt and Tiffiny turned into reality during the pandemic. With roots in rural Nebraska and southern Omaha, they’ve carried their love of growing things into their own fields. These days, Matt also contributes his tech skills to the TakeRoot team, blending his background in IT with his passion for local, sustainable food.

How We Show Up for Our Farmers and Community

  • Longevity

We honor the work of the people who grow our food. TakeRoot exists so farmers and producers can build something that lasts — knowledge passed down, land cared for, and a community fed by the hands that tend it.

  • Community

We believe good food connects people. A strong, loyal community makes local food systems possible. When we choose each other, we strengthen our neighborhoods, our farmers, and our future.

  • Cultivation

We support food that nourishes both people and the planet. From soil health to shared tables, our work is about growing with intention — one harvest, one season, one relationship at a time.
